Real stories.
Real framework.
Real change.

This book is built on actual experience — not theory. Three things it takes you inside:

  • The children who swam 500 meters to school every day — and what one Facebook post did about it.

  • What 200 communities taught one founder about letting go — and multiplying impact.

  • A framework for building something that matters — even when the path isn't clear.

"Every big change begins with a small act of hope."

If you've been waiting
for the right moment —
this is it.

Most people don't fail because they lack talent. They fail because they never start. This book is for the people who feel the pull toward something bigger.

The aspiring founder

You have the idea and the conviction. What you need is a clear path from "I want to build something" to "I'm building something." This book gives you that path.

The community builder

You're not building for profit alone. You want your work to outlive you — to serve people who never knew your name. This framework was built for exactly that kind of ambition.

The person starting over

You've been here before and something didn't work. Or life changed. You need a framework that doesn't require you to start with everything — just with what you already have.

Not inspiration.
Traction.

Most books leave you feeling motivated but not different. This one is designed to change what you do on Monday morning.

Clarity

A sharper sense of what you're uniquely positioned to contribute — and where to begin. Not someday. Now.

Momentum

Concrete ways to stop overthinking and start moving — even before everything feels ready. Especially before everything feels ready.

Multiplication

A leadership lens that turns your individual effort into something that grows beyond you — and empowers the people around you to do the same.

Four letters.
One clear path forward.

Built from 20 years of building movements and training leaders across the Philippines — distilled into a framework anyone can use.

Harness

Harness what sets your soul on fire.

Find your strengths, sharpen your gifts, and pay attention to the problems that keep tugging at your heart. Your conviction is your compass.

Open

Open your wallet, your mind, and your heart.

Real commitment means investing your time, relationships, and resources — not just your money — into something bigger than yourself.

Perspire

Perspire. Stop planning. Start building.

Prototype. Iterate. Keep going. Meaningful work is built by people willing to do the messy, difficult, unglamorous work that others avoid.

Empower

Empower others.

Share what you learn. Create leaders, not followers. Build the kind of legacy that doesn't need you in the room to keep growing.

Jay Jaboneta

Social Entrepreneur · AI Strategist · TEDx Speaker · Author

In 2010, Jay heard of the story of children who crossed dangerous waters every day just to reach school (this was in Zamboanga City in the south of the Philippines). He came home and shared it on his Facebook account and texted friends.

What started as one post became a national movement — the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, which has since reached over 200 communities across the Philippines.

That experience shaped his deepest belief: access, not talent, is the barrier most people face. That you don't need a perfect plan. That the act of beginning changes everything.

An Acumen Global Fellow, TEDx speaker on four continents, and founder of Kenzo AI Consulting, Jay has spent 20 years building movements, training educators, and working at the intersection of technology, education, and social impact across Southeast Asia.

Start with HOPE is the distilled version of everything he has learned about starting — and why starting is the whole game.
